BREATHWORK
Breath is life, change you breath, change your life!

Breath
Essential for life, yet we take little notice until our breathing is challenged.
Human beings on average can go 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water yet many would struggle to survive 3 minutes without breathing.
When you begin to notice your breath, begin to build a relationship with it as your most trusted friend, you can utilise the breath to effect fundamental change, for lasting results and healthier life.
When our body reacts to life events, both positive and negative the breath will alter in response.
Stressful events and trauma trigger our Automomus Nervous System into action - to protect us, in turn the breath will change to assist. The Sympathetic Nervous System responsible for bringing us into flight or flight triggers a chain reaction within, sending stress hormones and energy into the muscles to help us stand our ground and fight, or to propel us away in flight - both actions require oxygen, so the diaphragm contracts upwards into the the ribcage, sending the breath into the upper lungs, thus the breath becomes quick and shallow, getting oxygen into the blood fast to aid us in getting to safety.
When we are suffering from continued stress and are holding onto historical tension and trauma the body gets stuck in a cycle of this response and the breath stays shallow, light and quick. This can become unconscious hyperventilation, causing a deficiency of carbon dioxide in the body.
A continued low level of carbon dioxide in the blood (initially needed to fight or run) leads to contraction of the blood vessels that deliver oxygen to the body and brain, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, chest pain and more. A cycle of disfunction within begins, and poor health follows.
When we become more aware of our breath, we can learn to work with it as a tool for effective change, a gateway to healing and to longterm physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth.

Breathwork
Breath work is a term that has become extremely popular in the healing world recently - as if we have only just discovered it! The reality is that eastern philosophies have spoken of the breath as a key to life and healing for thousands of years. Breath is not just a blend of gases we draw in and out of our body, but an ENERGY EXCHANGE. The seers and sages of old knew this and passed down through the ages methods and techniques such as those used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and practices like Qi Gong :Qi( or Chi) translating as 'Life force,' and throughout the lineages of the yoga traditions in the practices of Pranayama translating (in short) as Prana - life-force energy, Yama- control / extension - these practices are plentiful and all work with the human being as a whole by affecting energy to create desired outcomes.
Recent times have seen the rise in popularity of 'Breathwork,' with celebrities using techniques such as the work of modern breath work pioneer Wim Hoff, new books sharing fantastic insights on past scientific studies such as Breathe by James Nestor and many more.
My training in Traditional Tantric Hatha Yoga, uses pranayama to move and shape energy ( tantra translates in short as: to weave & expand energy using intelligent methods),
shifting old dense energy connected to past traumas, creating a awareness of enlivened energy in the body and in advanced practices using the breath to transform energy.
More recently increasing my knowledge by studying with Dan Brulé (who incidentally also studied the same yoga lineage) who has dedicated over 50 years to the study, practice and sharing of Breathwork, and author of Just Breathe:Mastering Breathwork endorsed by world renowned life coach Tony Robbins.
Pranayama / Breathwork has change my life and health. It is the key to all somatic healing, the key to a healthier and more prosperous life.

Breathwork Sessions
Effective daily tools to 'Journeys with the Breath.'
Breath is a primary tool in your Nervous System Self Regulation Tool kit.
Initial sessions will encourage you to notice your breath and introduce techniques to calm the nervous system.
Methods that can effect change in just a few minutes of practice, that you can employ throughout your day to come back to yourself.
As the breath calms the body, the mind will follow, with the breath as a guide for the mind, the body with follow and a coherence forms within and CALM follows.
Once you have become more adept in conscious breathing, and have met your breath and developed a healthier relationship with it, we can begin to take longer Conscious Connected Breath Journeys, breathing into different spaces of the body, bringing the awareness / attentions to different places and adjusting the pace of the breath, for longer periods of time. These journeys can uncover hidden pockets of emotions and challenge from the past, shifting them out, and can be a powerful tool in longterm healing.
